When the flow of information on the Internet and mobile devices is growing exponentially fast, it is very important to have requirements of governance and ethics. Health industry is one of those fields where data is especially sensitive and specialists must be able to collect, manage and store it very responsibly. Responding to the industry’s needs, the project ATHIKA was started two years ago with a strong focus on governance and ethics topics.
In the first part of the ATHIKA course, named Fundamentals part, an overview of the three topics was delivered through a combination of online lectures, readings, videos, quizzes, laboratory assignments and work in groups. The final stage of the course was the workshop. All students needed to choose one of three internaries and accept a challenge by entrepreneurs and develop necessary prototypes for business.
In the beginning of this year more than 180 students from Europe joined the online training and gained knowledge in IoT, AI and Ethics and Governance in the eHealth context for a few months. In the first part of the ATHIKA course, named Fundamentals part, an overview of the three previous topics was delivered through a combination of online lectures, readings, videos, quizzes, laboratory assignments and work in groups.
The University of the West of Scotland hosted an online workshop, powered by the European Commission-funded project ATHIKA, highlighting recent advances of AI&ML-based technologies in digital healthcare. As expected, this workshop has attracted huge public attention thanks to the relevance of the topic and workshop interactivity: a practical hands-on experience on the AI&ML algorithms were illustrated.
